Guardiola Reacts to Bellingham’s Controversial Red Card
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, who was sent off after allegedly using inappropriate language toward a referee.
Guardiola stressed the importance of respecting match officials, emphasizing that referees should be allowed to do their job without unnecessary pressure.
Bellingham has been a key player for Real Madrid this season, delivering crucial performances, including a standout goal in their thrilling 3-2 victory over City during the UEFA Champions League clash at the Etihad Stadium.
The red card incident occurred during a game against Osasuna, where Bellingham was accused of directing an expletive at referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero. Both the player and his club maintain that his words were misinterpreted.
Speaking on the matter, Guardiola remarked, “My English is good, but I don’t always see the difference between ‘f— off’ and ‘f— you.’”
He continued, “What really matters is the intention, not just the words. The best approach is to avoid it altogether and let referees do their job in peace.”
Ancelotti Responds to Guardiola’s Champions League Prediction
Meanwhile, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti addressed Guardiola’s remark that City has only a “1%” chance of advancing in the Champions League.
After Madrid secured a late comeback win in the first leg, Ancelotti looked ahead to the return fixture at home with confidence.
“I’ll ask him before the match if he truly believes they only have a 1% chance,” Ancelotti said with a smile. “On our side, we don’t assume a 99% certainty of going through, but we know we have a small advantage, and we need to make the most of it.”
He added, “I was pleased with our performance in the first leg, and based on our training sessions, I feel confident that we’re ready to deliver again.”
