Clinic Fined After Shakira’s Medical Info Leaked Online
A clinic in Peru has been hit with a hefty fine after private medical details about international music star Shakira were leaked earlier this year.
Back in February, the Colombian singer had to cancel a highly anticipated performance in Lima after experiencing sudden abdominal pain and being rushed to the hospital. Just two days later, she returned to the stage and performed as scheduled—but the drama didn’t end there.
Soon after her brief hospital visit, sensitive details from her medical records appeared on social media. The leak sparked public outrage and triggered an official investigation.
Now, authorities have penalized Delgado Auna, the private clinic where Shakira was treated, with a fine of $190,000. Officials say the clinic failed to protect the singer’s personal data and violated privacy laws.
At the time of the incident, the clinic issued a statement condemning the breach, promising to look into the matter internally, and reaffirming its commitment to patient confidentiality.
Shakira, 48, is currently touring the globe on her long-awaited “Las mujeres ya no lloran” tour—her first world tour in seven years. The privacy breach has not slowed her down, but it’s certainly left many fans questioning how such a lapse could happen in the first place.
