The Presidency has drawn a comparison between Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States. Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, made this statement while reflecting on the recent U.S. presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
Ajayi noted that, like Trump, Peter Obi tends to use highly critical language to describe the country he aims to lead, seemingly in an effort to gain voter sympathy.
In a post on his X account, Ajayi wrote, “Peter Obi is Nigeria’s version of Donald Trump. Just like Trump, Obi resorts to extreme negativity when discussing the very nation he seeks to govern, all in an attempt to sway public opinion.”
He went on to praise Kamala Harris’s performance in the debate, saying, “Kamala Harris handled Trump brilliantly during their first debate. She was in control throughout, clearly demonstrating her capabilities.”
Ajayi further remarked on how Harris had set strategic traps for Trump, which he repeatedly fell for. Citing fact-checkers, Ajayi mentioned that while Harris made only one incorrect claim during the 90-minute debate, Trump was found to have made 33 false statements.
