Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has expressed his condolences following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari passed away on July 13 in London after several weeks of treatment at a hospital, sparking a wave of tributes from across Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook and 𝕏 accounts, Obi described Buhari’s passing as a solemn moment for the nation, while acknowledging the late leader’s composed and dignified approach to leadership.
“I have just received the sad news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” Obi wrote. “This is not only a time of grief for his family and loved ones, but also a reflective moment for our entire country.”
He continued, “President Buhari always carried himself with dignity. To his wife, his children, the extended Buhari family, and every Nigerian feeling this loss—I offer my sincere condolences.”
Obi ended his message with a prayer: “May Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgive President Buhari’s shortcomings, reward his service to Nigeria, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”
