Rumors circulating about the arrest of 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by the Department of State Services (DSS), have been firmly denied by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem. Obienyem clarified that there is no truth to the claims that Obi was apprehended at his home in Anambra, noting that the former governor wasn’t even in the country at the time of the alleged incident.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Obienyem also debunked reports suggesting that Obi’s wife, Margaret, had been arrested. He called the stories entirely false and baseless.
“As of Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending to important engagements,” Obienyem stated. “He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, involved in party and national matters.”
The statement urged the public to disregard these rumors and refrain from spreading misinformation.
“There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrest was made,” Obienyem stressed.
He added that Obi remains focused on his commitment to the country, and his team will continue to provide accurate updates on his activities.
