Photos from the National Assembly have surfaced following a heartfelt valedictory session held in tribute to the late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah. A casket containing the remains of the former lawmaker, who represented Anambra South, was placed at the National Assembly complex on Tuesday, as the nation came together to honor his memory.
Senator Ubah tragically passed away at the age of 52 in London on July 27, 2023. The emotional ceremony attracted several prominent figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other dignitaries, all of whom arrived to pay their respects.
Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver a speech during the session, celebrating the late senator’s life and legacy. Photos from the event showcase the somber atmosphere as the National Assembly paid tribute to Ubah’s contributions to Nigerian politics.
In a related development, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has called on the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in honor of Senator Ubah. Speaking during a tribute event held on November 18, Okorocha urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to relay this request to the government.
Okorocha emphasized that releasing Kanu would serve as a powerful gesture to honor the late Senator, particularly for the Igbo people. He stressed that such a move would allow the community to heal and reorganize. In his message, Okorocha also reminded Akpabio of the importance of fulfilling this request, not only for the Igbos but also as a personal appeal.
Senator Ubah will be laid to rest on November 22, and the calls for unity and justice continue to echo as Nigeria remembers his life and work.
