German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived at State House on Wednesday following his landing in Nigeria on Tuesday.
On his arrival, he was welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Steinmeier’s visit, which runs through December 12, 2024, includes various engagements. He is set to meet with President Bola Tinubu and Alieu Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, among other officials.
On Wednesday, he was warmly received by President Tinubu and participated in an inspection of the Guard of Honour.
After Abuja, Steinmeier will travel to Lagos, where his schedule includes meetings with business leaders, a visit to a start-up hub, and interactions with cultural icons such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka.
The visit also provides an opportunity for Steinmeier to explore Lagos, gaining insights into its urban development, environmental concerns, and social dynamics as a thriving megacity.
