Ruth Otabor, a graduate of Auchi Polytechnic and sister to reality TV star Ijeoma Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has sadly passed away.
Phyna confirmed the heartbreaking news on Sunday through a statement shared on her Instagram page. The family, in their message, asked for privacy as they grieve their loss.
The statement read in part:
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and mother, Ruth Otabor, who left us on the 31st of August, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m. The family is deeply mourning and would appreciate privacy at this time. Details of the funeral will be shared later.”
Ruth’s story had earlier drawn public attention after a devastating accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. She lost a leg after being struck by a Dangote truck reportedly driven by an underage, unlicensed driver.
Following the accident, Phyna called for accountability and justice, urging the Dangote Group to take responsibility. The company initially promised full support for Ruth’s treatment, including plans to send her abroad for further care, but Phyna later alleged they failed to honor that commitment.
Her passing has left family, friends, and supporters in shock, and many continue to mourn a life cut short far too soon.
