Gerard Pique, a defender for Barcelona, has explained why he chose to retire from football at the age of 35.
In Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Almeria at Camp Nou, Pique competed in his final match for Barcelona.
It was the proper time to allow others in Barcelona “space,” according to Pique, who stated this during his tearful parting statement at Camp Nou following the game.
Pique stated, “Playing for Barca has been a romance filled with a lot of love and emotion. I believe that it was the proper time to give one another some distance.
I believe it was time for us to split ways, and I’m sure I’ll return someday.
The 35-year-old center defender announced his unexpected retirement from sports on Thursday.
The Catalan won fifteen trophies during Pique’s trophy-laden career, including eight La Liga championships and three Champions Leagues.
