The Ghana Police Service recently apprehended the driver of a Hyundai truck with registration number GS 9018 – 20 following an accident involving a newly imported train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
The incident, which occurred during a test run on Thursday, April 18, 2024, involved a train imported from Poland. According to a statement from the Police, initial investigations suggest that the driver left the truck unattended on the railway line, resulting in a collision with the train. The Police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
Reports indicate that the truck driver was on a delivery of cement blocks when the truck became stuck on the rail after failing to pass through a space under the bridge.
In response to the incident, Minister of Railways Development Peter Amewu stated that engineers are actively working to repair the train.
