Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, is heavily policed after the government banned opposition protests scheduled for Thursday.
Water canons and riot police have been spotted in opposition strongholds across the city, according to local media.
Roadblocks have also been placed on roads leading to the president’s official residence, the State House.

Businesses have opened in the city center, and public transportation vehicles are in service. However, train services in Nairobi have been suspended ahead of the expected protests.
According to media reports, protesters in the western towns of Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori have already blocked roads with bonfires and rocks.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrived at his office early this morning and urged Kenyans to come to work.
