The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a violent attack on the residence and office of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West and Minister for Communications and Digitalisation.
A video shared by Accra-based Asaase FM showed her residence in ruins, with several household items destroyed after she lost her seat in the 2024 general elections.
According to a police statement released on December 9, the attack involved a gang of 15 men who broke into and vandalised the property. The stolen items included three motorbikes, one pickup truck, and a 32-inch Samsung television.

A Crime Scene Management team has visited the site, and a targeted, intelligence-led operation is currently underway to apprehend those responsible. The police reassured the public that they are committed to bringing the suspects to justice.
To ensure the safety of the lawmaker, security has been increased at both her residence and office while investigations continue.
Owusu-Ekuful, who ran under the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), lost her seat in the 2024 elections to Reverend Kweku Addo of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Certified results from the Electoral Officer revealed that Owusu-Ekuful secured 26,575 votes, while Rev. Kweku Addo received 31,866 votes.
In a related development, the police have refuted reports of vandalism at the NPP office in Kasoa, urging the public to disregard the false claims.
Meanwhile, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called for restraint from NDC supporters following the party’s victory, especially in light of reports of looting, vandalism, and destruction of property by party supporters across the country.
So far, the Ghana Police Service has arrested 89 suspects related to various offenses, with 40 individuals facing charges connected to acts of destruction.
