The Ghana Police Service has initiated an extensive search for two unidentified gunmen following the tragic killing of two off-duty police officers. The incident, which took place on Thursday, May 2, 2024, has deeply unsettled the community of Block Factory, East Trassacco, Accra.
According to an official statement from the law enforcement agency, the off-duty officers were sitting outside their private residence when the assailants, riding a motorbike, suddenly opened fire on them without provocation. Shockingly, the attackers did not attempt to rob the victims before fleeing the scene.
“The Police are currently conducting an intelligence-led operation to apprehend the suspects,” the statement read.
The motive behind the brutal shooting remains unknown, leaving both the community and law enforcement authorities perplexed and distressed.
This tragic incident follows another fatal shooting just two days earlier, adding to concerns about rising violence in the area. Lance Corporal Danso Michael, a member of the Ghana Armed Forces, met a similarly tragic fate during a dispute over land ownership in Millennium City, Kasoa.
Preliminary investigations into Lance Corporal Danso Michael’s death suggest that he and his colleagues intervened in a land dispute over a half plot at Millennium City. Despite warnings from authorities to avoid any activities on the disputed land, tensions escalated, leading to a fatal confrontation.
One individual, identified as Benlord Ababio, purportedly a traditional leader, has been arrested in connection with Lance Corporal Danso Michael’s killing. Currently in police custody, Ababio is cooperating with the Ghana Police Service’s ongoing investigation into the matter.
The recent surge in violence targeting law enforcement officials has sent shockwaves throughout the nation, prompting calls for heightened vigilance and swift action to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
