The Nigerian Police have brought Alex Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member, before a Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the arraignment on his social media account, noting that more details would be shared soon.
The legal action follows an incident involving Ikwechegh and a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, in the Maitama area of Abuja. Reports indicate that the altercation began over a delivery, with the lawmaker allegedly becoming aggressive when the driver requested he approach the car to collect the package.
In a viral video circulating online, Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency, can be seen slapping and threatening the driver, stating that his position would shield him from any consequences—even if reported to the Inspector-General of Police. Ikwechegh allegedly damaged the driver’s phone, tore his clothes, and left without paying for the service.
Further updates are expected as the legal proceedings continue.
