Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has been granted bail by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Abure was apprehended in Benin City, the Edo State capital, by the operatives of the Zone 5 Command, alongside the state chairman of the party.
According to Tijani Momoh, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force Zone 5, Abure and three others faced accusations of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit dangerous harm, as per a petition.
In response, several Labour Party leaders journeyed to Benin following Abure’s arrest, just 48 hours before the party’s primary election ahead of the September 21 gubernatorial polls in the state.
LP’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, addressed journalists during a visit to the police facility, stating that they were awaiting clearance to brief the press on Abure’s arrest.
It was later reported that Abure was released on bail Wednesday night following various interventions.
