Goodluck Jonathan Offers Support to Governor Fubara Amid Political Tensions
Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to remain steadfast despite the political challenges he is currently facing.
Speaking at an event in Nihi Community, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Jonathan encouraged Fubara to view these challenges as a stepping stone to becoming a seasoned political leader.
“I understand the difficulties you are facing, but remember, no one becomes a general without fighting battles,” Jonathan said. “This is your first time holding such a significant political office. These experiences are shaping you to be a strong and capable leader. With the commitment I see in you and the support of the Rivers people, you will overcome.”
Highlighting the importance of Rivers State to the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole, Jonathan emphasized the need for peace and stability in the region.
“Rivers State is central to the Niger Delta. Any unrest here could destabilize the entire region and harm the nation’s economy. We must ensure peace in Rivers State and allow the governor to focus on his work. Political office is temporary—once one person’s tenure ends, another will step in. There’s no need for conflict over leadership,” he stated.
The event also saw Jonathan being honored with the traditional title Eze Udo 1 of Etche by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers.
Both Jonathan and Fubara were present to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the coronation of Eze Nwala, the Onye Ishi Agwuru III of Ulakwo-Umuselem in Etche, underscoring their commitment to unity and cultural heritage.
