Nollywood Mourns as Veteran Actor Duro Michael Passes Away
The Nigerian film industry is in grief following the death of veteran actor Duro Michael.
His passing was announced by Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop, who shared the news in an emotional post on Instagram. According to him, Michael died a few days ago after a long battle with a terminal illness.
“Duro Michael has kicked the bucket. He died a few days ago after battling a terminal illness… may his soul rest in peace,” Stanley wrote. He also lamented the lack of unity and support within Nollywood, saying, “We no dey help ourselves in this Nollywood, and it’s too bad… No synergy.”
Michael had struggled with health challenges for years. Back in 2022, Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin donated ₦5 million to assist with his medical bills, but his condition worsened over time. In 2024, the actor publicly appealed to producers for financial support and more acting opportunities.
Throughout his career, Duro Michael featured in several memorable films, including Midnight Love (2003) and The Guilty (2006), leaving behind a legacy cherished by fans of Nollywood classics.
Meanwhile, fellow actor Yul Edochie has raised fresh concerns about the fading use of the Igbo language among young people. In a Facebook post, he described the situation as a cultural failure, urging parents and communities to do more in preserving their heritage.
