Prince David Osei, a well-known Ghanaian actor and staunch supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has found himself at the centre of controversy following a social media comment that has sparked a backlash from National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters.
The actor, in a now-viral tweet, referred to former President John Dramani Mahama as a “drunkard” in what many have seen as a derogatory remark. His comment came shortly after Mahama was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election, a move that many feel was inappropriate and unbecoming for someone in the public eye.
In his tweet, Osei wrote: “Even drunkard you voted for kwasia boy!! Learn sense wai Gyimi.” This remark has been condemned by a large portion of the public, with critics labelling it as disrespectful and out of line, especially in a nation where political dialogue is meant to remain civil.
Social media users have taken to the platform to express their disapproval, with some pointing out that public figures should set an example of decorum. One user commented: “We can disagree politically, but referring to a President as a drunkard crosses the line. Public figures should do better.” Another added: “This is below the belt. Prince David Osei should be held accountable for his words. Such comments don’t foster unity.”
