Rihanna has booked her next major role.
The pop icon has joined the cast of The Smurfs: The Lost Village. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will play Smurfette in the live-action hybrid film from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies, which is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
Rihanna made the announcement while pregnant during a surprise appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday.
“I’ll play Smurfette.” “I tried for the Papa Smurf role, but it didn’t work out,” she joked.
Rihanna, who is expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky, put her heart and soul into the project.
“I had the opportunity to play a role and just imagine.” I only had to be myself. “In my third trimester, I got to show up in my pajamas and play a little blue badass,” she explained. “I’m hoping this earns me some brownie points with my kids one day.”
“I can’t wait for you guys to see how she’s been reimagined,” she added. The entire film is going to be a lot of fun. It’s exhilarating.”
The film (Puss in Boots) directed by Chris Miller is described as a comedic, musical adventure “that sets out to answer one of life’s biggest questions: What is a Smurf?”
Rihanna will produce the film and contribute original songs in addition to voicing Smurfette.
Rihanna’s first animated role is not her first. She previously provided the voice of a teen girl in DreamWorks’ 2015 animated film Home. Battleship, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Ocean’s 8, and Guava Island are among her film credits.
