The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Nigeria has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for electing its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, despite opposition parties disputing the election results.
According to official results, the 70-year-old veteran politician received 8,794,726 votes (37% of all votes cast).
The elections were the most contentious in Nigeria since the reintroduction of multiparty democracy in 1999.
“Thank you, Nigerians, for electing Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President-Elect of Nigeria,” the ruling party said in a tweet.

The opposition parties have called the election a sham.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party claimed that the results had been manipulated and demanded that a new election be held.
They should take their complaints to court, according to the electoral commission.
