Renowned celebrity stylist, Toyin Lawani, has shared her struggle with a deteriorating spine, which she says was caused by an epidural injection.
For those unfamiliar, an epidural is a type of anesthesia injected into the spine, commonly used for pain relief during childbirth, certain surgeries, or chronic back pain.
In a heartfelt video posted on her Instagram page, Toyin opened up about the ongoing pain she has endured since receiving the injection.
She explained that she opted for an epidural during the birth of her last two children but now regrets it, stating that doctors don’t always disclose the long-term effects.
“When you hear ‘epidural,’ run,” she warned. “Doctors mention side effects, but they don’t tell you how much it can affect your body years later. I have three friends going through the same thing as me.”
She continued, “I’m just 42, how did I end up with a degenerating spine? I have implants in my spine, I experience paralysis, and I can’t stand for long periods. Sometimes, even breathing feels difficult. The surgery affected so much in my body.”
Toyin revealed that while she had a natural birth for her first child, she received an epidural for the last two deliveries—one of which was necessary due to surgery.
“The pain doesn’t stop,” she added. “My back is killing me, and my spine is breaking down.”
Her story has sparked conversations about the risks of epidurals, with many women sharing similar experiences.
