A delegation of UN experts claims to have discovered proof that Rwanda has participated in military operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s east, including supporting the M23 rebel organization.
The conclusions of a report that was leaked confirm Félix Tshisekedi’s claim that Rwanda has been aiding the rebels in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Kigali government has consistently disputed this, but as of this writing, no comment has been made.
Tens of thousands of residents have had to leave their homes as a result of the M23 rebel group’s recent resurgence.
The severity of the fighting in eastern DR Congo is highlighted in the study by UN experts that was leaked.
It claims that looting, theft, extortion, torture, rape, and killings have occurred in places under the authority of the M23 rebels.
The experts discovered proof that the Rwandan military forces supplied more troops to aid these rebels in capturing towns earlier this year.
There is also a lot of criticism of the Congolese army.
According to the research, Congolese forces collaborated with a number of rebel groups, including the FDLR occasionally, which had ties to the 1994 Rwandan genocide. This was done as part of their defense against the M23 group.
The M23 militia claims to be leaving a key frontline position close to Goma in the meantime.
The rebels declared they would turn over Kibumba to an army from East Africa.
Presidents from the area made a demand for the rebels to leave last month.
