South Africa’s Justice Minister, Ronald Lamola, told lawmakers on Thursday that he will not resign as a result of Thabo Bester’s escape from a privately run prison.
Following his arrest in Tanzania last week, Bester was flown to South Africa on Thursday in a specially chartered plane.
He is known as the “Facebook rapist” because he lures his victims using social networking sites.

Nandipha Magudumana, a celebrity doctor who was arrested alongside him, was also deported.
The minister apologized and accepted full responsibility for the prison break.
“I’m not going to resign because I did what I was supposed to do,” Ronald Lamola told a parliamentary justice committee.
He stated that the Department of correctional services is responsible for keeping inmates in custody until the end of their sentences.
