The Institute of Energy Security (IES) has made a direct appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, urging him to remove Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh from his position as the Minister for Energy.
Their call stems from the persistent power outages, often referred to as dumsor, which have been a source of frustration for many. Nana Amoasi VII, the Executive Director of IES, voiced his disappointment with the minister’s perceived lack of action during an interview on Eyewitness News.
He pointed out the disconnect between the minister’s actions and the reality of the energy crisis, raising questions about his effectiveness in addressing such a critical issue.
“At this juncture, with the situation being what it is, what purpose does the minister serve? It may be best for him to step aside and focus on other endeavors. The situation has reached a tipping point. Isn’t it disheartening to hear such dismissive remarks? It shows a lack of respect for consumers. Are our expectations unreasonable?”
He continued, expressing frustration from a consumer’s perspective. “Let’s be clear, I’ve paid for my electricity in advance. I’ve invested in a meter installation, which is essentially a contractual agreement. And yet, I’m left without power. The least that can be done is to communicate with transparency about when to expect electricity. Don’t simply tell me to figure it out on my own.”
The IES emphasized the urgent need for action in the energy sector, underscoring the necessity for the minister’s removal to address the current challenges effectively.
