Mohamed Salah has called out a Liverpool fan account for mocking two of his former teammates, reminding supporters that celebrating new arrivals shouldn’t come at the expense of those who’ve moved on.
The exchange began when @AnfieldEdition, a fan page with more than half a million followers, posted a collage comparing outgoing forwards Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz with Liverpool’s new record signings, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. The caption boldly asked fans to “name a bigger upgrade.”
Salah wasn’t impressed. Jumping into the comments, he wrote: “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
It’s been a landmark summer for Liverpool, who broke spending records to land Wirtz for £116m and Isak for £125m. The club also added Hugo Ekitike (£79m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m) in a major squad refresh. In total, their £446m outlay surpassed Chelsea’s big-spending window of 2023, though significant sales balanced the books.
Among those departures were Núñez, who joined Al-Hilal after three seasons, and Díaz, who completed a high-profile move to Bayern Munich. Both were key players in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign under Arne Slot, and Salah’s words served as a reminder of the respect they earned during their time at Anfield.
