The reinstated Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has officially arrived at the Kano Government House to receive his appointment letter. Naija News earlier reported that Sanusi arrived in Kano late Thursday, greeted by a low-key homecoming reception due to security concerns.
According to DailyTrust, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor is set to resume his role as the sole first-class Emir of the state after receiving his appointment letter. Following this, the Emir will attend his first public event since reinstatement.
Emir Sanusi is expected to attend a mini-durbar ceremony at 10 am at the Africa House in Kano Government House before heading to the Nassarawa Emir’s palace. He will then lead the Jumu’at (Friday) prayers at the Kano Central Mosque, located at the palace in Kofar Kudu.
This comes after Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi on Thursday, four years after he was dethroned by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje. In a sweeping move, Governor Yusuf also deposed five emirs appointed by Ganduje and gave them 48 hours to vacate their official residences and palaces, instructing them to hand over their responsibilities to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Earlier on Thursday, the Kano State House of Assembly passed a bill dissolving the four additional emirates created by the previous administration. The new law, titled the Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment No.2) Law, 2024, eliminated the first-class emir status in Gaya, Rano, Karaye, and Bichi, consolidating the emirates back to their original structure.
