Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince” Passes Away at 36 After Nearly Two Decades in Coma
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud, often referred to as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36.
He had been in a coma for nearly 20 years following a tragic car accident in London in 2005. The crash, which occurred when he was just 15, left him with a severe brain injury and internal bleeding. Since then, he remained on life support, never regaining full consciousness.
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, shared the heartbreaking news in a statement posted to social media, expressing deep sorrow and submission to God’s will.

At the time of the accident, Prince Al-Waleed was enrolled at a military college in the UK. Throughout his long medical journey, his father stayed committed to keeping him on life support—refusing doctors’ advice to discontinue care even when hope seemed lost.
Over the years, slight movements—like finger twitches and small head motions—offered moments of optimism, but his condition sadly remained unchanged.
{يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ، ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً، فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي، وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي}
بقلوب مؤمنة بقضاء الله وقدره وببالغ الحزن والأسى ننعى إبننا الغالي

Prince Al-Waleed was the great-grandson of King Abdulaziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia. He was also a nephew to billionaire businessman Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal and a relative of the reigning monarch, King Salman.
Funeral services for Prince Al-Waleed will be held on Sunday. The men’s prayer will take place at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque, while the women’s service will be held at King Faisal Specialist Hospital.
May he rest in peace.
