Early Tuesday morning, Canadian authorities launched an investigation into a shooting incident at the residence of superstar rapper Drake in Toronto’s upscale Bridle Path neighbourhood.
Police Inspector Paul Krawczyk reported that a security guard stationed at the property was wounded by gunfire from suspects in a vehicle. The guard sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The incident occurred at 2:09 am, captured on security camera footage, although the footage has not been released publicly. The guard was stationed outside the residence’s gates when the shooting took place.
While it’s unclear if Drake was present during the incident, authorities have been in contact with his team, who are cooperating with the investigation, according to Inspector Krawczyk.
The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle, and no detailed descriptions have been provided. Most of the area has been cordoned off by police, with small orange markers indicating potential locations of shell casings.
Drake, aged 37, is renowned for chart-topping tracks like “God’s Plan” and “Hotline Bling” and was the highest-grossing rapper globally last year. Currently, he’s involved in a feud with Kendrick Lamar, marked by the exchange of “diss tracks” garnering widespread attention.
While hip-hop rivalries are not uncommon, there’s no evidence linking the shooting to the ongoing feud. Inspector Krawczyk acknowledged awareness of the feud but emphasized that it’s too early in the investigation to determine a motive.
