The Senate has suspended its plenary activities until Tuesday, September 23, 2025, giving lawmakers space to focus on oversight responsibilities and political engagements.
The decision came after a motion was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and was adopted during Thursday’s session.
In his final remarks before the break, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged committee members to make use of the recess by engaging directly with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) they oversee. He clarified that the break isn’t a time-off but an opportunity for hands-on evaluation of government efforts and deeper legislative contribution.
Akpabio also reminded senators affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attend the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled to hold at the Presidential Villa on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has also begun its recess. The Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, made the announcement on Wednesday, noting that sessions would resume on the same date as the Senate.
The motion for adjournment was raised, seconded, and passed unanimously, signaling a formal start to the legislature’s annual break.
