Adamu Garba to Senate: Handle Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Case with More Discretion
Former APC presidential hopeful Adamu Garba has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging the Nigerian Senate to approach the matter with more restraint.
In a post shared on his 𝕏 account on Tuesday, Garba criticized the Senate’s handling of the situation, saying it has only fueled public sentiment and unnecessary drama. He suggested that the issue should have been managed quietly within the Senate chambers, rather than creating space for what he described as “populist activism.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, had previously been suspended for six months following her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The suspension was later overturned by Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court, who ruled in her favor and ordered her reinstatement.
Despite the court’s decision, the Senate refused to allow her back, claiming the ruling was merely an advisory. The Senate President has since appealed the judgment.
On Tuesday, the lawmaker’s attempt to resume legislative duties was blocked at the National Assembly gate by security personnel, reportedly acting on instructions to deny her entry.
Reacting to the incident, Garba criticized the Senate’s response:
“The Senate leadership needs to stop the unnecessary dramatization of this Natasha saga. The hallowed chamber shouldn’t be a stage for populist activism. Handling it internally would’ve been far more dignified.”
Garba’s comments have sparked further discussion about how the upper chamber manages internal disputes—and how such issues play out in the public eye.
