President Bola Tinubu Extends Condolences for Onyeka Onwenu
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Onyeka Onwenu, the renowned singer, songwriter, actor, and politician.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu paid tribute to the “Queen of Songs,” highlighting her impactful performance of “One Love” in the 1990s, which fostered unity and harmony.
The statement noted President Tinubu’s appreciation for Onwenu’s artistic contributions, including her memorable collaboration with King Sunny Ade on the 1980s family planning campaign, “Wait for Me.”
“Her timeless music and influential work continue to resonate,” the President remarked.
President Tinubu celebrated Onwenu’s diverse talents and her ability to bring joy and laughter through her extensive artistic endeavors. He offered his condolences to the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and the many fans mourning her loss.
The President also prayed that Onyeka Onwenu finds peace in a place where her music lives on and where joy never fades.
Onwenu, aged 72, passed away on Tuesday night at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing during a performance at the birthday party of Emzor Pharmaceuticals CEO, Stella Okoli.
