Akon Arrested in Georgia Over Missed Court Appearance
Senegalese-American singer Akon found himself in police custody last Friday in Chamblee, Georgia, after authorities acted on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court.
According to reports, the arrest was connected to a previous driving case in Roswell, New Mexico, where it was discovered that the music star’s driver’s license had been suspended since January 2023.
The situation followed another incident in September when his white Tesla Cybertruck broke down on a Georgia highway due to a dead battery. Police later found the vehicle had no valid insurance, linking the suspended license to an earlier missed court date.
Akon was said to have cooperated fully during the arrest, though a vape found in the car was confiscated by officers. Traffic cameras reportedly alerted police to the outstanding warrant before his detention.
He was booked into DeKalb County Jail on November 7 and released on bail later that same day. His mugshot, featuring him in a black hoodie, quickly made rounds online.
Despite the brief legal setback, Akon continued his tour schedule, performing in New Delhi, India, just days later on November 10. So far, neither the singer nor his team has released an official statement regarding the incident.
