South Africa’s military has announced that it will hold joint military exercises with Russia and China off its coast next month.
The drills will take place in Durban and Richards Bay from the 17th to the 27th of February.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) stated that the goal is to share operational skills and knowledge.
South Africa was one of the African countries that did not take sides in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Last month, the country took over as chairman of the BRICS group of nations, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
This will be the second time such a military exercise is held. The first was held in Cape Town in November 2019.
“Over 350 SANDF personnel from various arms of service and divisions will participate in this year’s exercise,” the SANDF said.
