South Africa’s President Emphasizes Non-Alignment in Global Dynamics.
In a televised speech, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa reaffirmed his nation’s stance of avoiding entanglement in global power struggles. His address preceded the forthcoming Brics summit, which brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, set to take place in Johannesburg.
“We are resolute in avoiding becoming pawns in global power rivalries. Our focus is on collaborating with all nations for global progress and harmony,” President Ramaphosa stated firmly. He emphasized, however, that this commitment “doesn’t imply neutrality regarding fundamental principles and national interests.”
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will attend the Brics summit virtually due to an agreement with President Ramaphosa, considering an International Criminal Court arrest warrant related to Russia’s Ukraine invasion. South Africa’s laws necessitate his arrest if he enters the country.
Collectively, the Brics nations contribute significantly to the global economy, accounting for around 25 percent. Interest in joining this group has surged this year, marking their influence in the international arena.
