South Africa’s president has stated that the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party wishes for the country to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Cyril Ramaphosa praised the decision, claiming that the court had treated some countries unfairly.
However, the process could take up to two years. Proposed amendments to the law would be open to all South Africans for comment before being debated in parliament.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for crimes against humanity committed during his war on Ukraine.
He is accused of being behind the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.
As a member of the International Criminal Court, South Africa is obligated to arrest Mr. Putin if he attends a Brics summit in August.
