Racing Santander Mourns the Loss of Former Midfielder Nico Hidalgo
Spanish club Racing Santander is grieving the passing of former midfielder Nico Hidalgo, who tragically lost his battle with lung cancer at just 32.
Hidalgo played for Racing Santander from 2018 to 2020, making 73 appearances and leaving a lasting impact with his dedication and skill. His football journey began at his hometown club, Motril, before moving to Granada, where he played for their reserve team and worked his way up.
In a major career move, he signed with Juventus in 2014, though he never played for the first team, spending time on loan at Granada and Cádiz instead. He later joined Extremadura in 2020 but never made an appearance, as his battle with illness forced him into early retirement.
Racing Santander called his passing an “irreparable loss,” while Granada remembered him as both a talented footballer and a wonderful person. Extremadura also extended their condolences, offering support to his family and loved ones.
Bright Osayi-Samuel Set to Leave Fenerbahce
Meanwhile, Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel is expected to leave Fenerbahce at the end of the season after contract renewal talks hit a deadlock.
The 27-year-old full-back has turned down an extension, reportedly seeking a pay raise that would double his current salary, which is just under €3 million per year. However, Fenerbahce is unwilling to meet his demands, and reports suggest they are prepared to let him leave as a free agent this summer.
With his departure imminent, several English clubs, including Fulham and Crystal Palace, have expressed strong interest in bringing him back to the Premier League.
