Despite ongoing clashes between his troops and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Sudan’s military leader, Lt Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has called for unity on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
On state television on Friday morning, Gen Burhan stated that Sudan would emerge from the fighting “more united and stronger.”
“We believe that we will overcome this crisis with wisdom and power, preserving our people’s unity and security and allowing us to safely transition to democracy,” he said.
The military leader did not specify whether the army would observe a 72-hour ceasefire declared by the RFS to commemorate Eid al-Fitr.

In the early hours of Friday, sounds of gunfire were reported in Khartoum, with the RSF accusing the army of staging a “sweeping attack” on the capital.
Since the violent power struggle erupted last weekend, there have been a number of failed ceasefires.
According to the World Health Organization, at least 330 people have been killed and 3,200 have been injured in the fighting so far.
According to a US State Department spokesperson, an American citizen is among the dead.
