Beginning Monday, the United Nations Human Rights Council will convene in Geneva for a five-week session.
The council promotes and investigates violations of human rights around the world.

It is likely to center on Russia’s actions in Ukraine. The agenda also includes allegations of war crimes in Ethiopia, as well as female repression in Afghanistan and Iran.
Myanmar, South Sudan, North Korea, and Belarus will also be considered by the council. Member states, however, decided not to discuss China’s alleged abuses of its Muslim Uyghur community.
The session will be inaugurated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
