Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi recently voiced her disappointment regarding the competition and lack of genuine unity among gospel artists. Speaking at the “Celebrating Jesus 7.0” concert in Ibadan, she highlighted her concerns over what she termed “fake love” within the industry.
Alabi lamented the growing jealousy and rivalries that she believes are affecting both well-established and emerging gospel singers. She emphasized that true unity and support among gospel musicians are essential, reminding her peers to focus on the legacy they are building and their accountability before God. Her message urged everyone to view their work as service to God rather than a pursuit of personal fame or rivalry.
In her speech, Alabi addressed the division she sees, noting that some top artists distance themselves from newcomers, and even among themselves, competition and animosity persist. She expressed concern that this behavior sets a negative example for new talents, who in turn begin to imitate these divisions.
“It’s out of hand, and God will hold us accountable for this,” Alabi warned, calling for a renewed focus on unity and purpose within the gospel music community.
