Kate Henshaw isn’t holding back—again. The Nollywood icon took to 𝕏 on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, to call out what she sees as a broken and deeply flawed electricity billing system in the country.
She expressed her disbelief at the so-called “band system,” which classifies consumers based on the amount of electricity they’re supposed to receive. The issue? Kate says she’s in Band A—meant to enjoy over 20 hours of power daily—but barely gets two hours on a good day.
Calling the setup a “massive fraud,” Kate questioned how people are being charged sky-high rates for something they hardly ever receive.
“It’s laughable,” she wrote. “This whole electricity band system is one big scam. Band A is meant to provide 20+ hours of light, but we’re lucky if we get 2. It’s robbery in broad daylight. And don’t get me started on estimated billing—outrageous!”
She even drew a sharp comparison to a now-defunct Ponzi scheme, suggesting that Nigerians are being deceived and shortchanged in plain sight.
“When you know there’s not enough power to go around, why raise the rates and cut the supply even more? Isn’t that just another version of CBEX?” she asked.
Frustrated and unfiltered, her words struck a chord with many who feel the same pinch every month—paying more and getting less.
