Since a few years ago, one Christmas song has dominated the charts on radio and streaming services around the time of Thanksgiving and in the days that follow: “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey.
Since its debut in 1994, it has had such a significant influence on mainstream culture that it currently tops Jingle Bells and White Christmas in terms of seasonal music usage.
Thanks to this song’s recent success, Mariah has proclaimed herself the Queen of Christmas and has also raked in millions of extra bucks that weren’t planned for.
The queen is starting to lose ground
However, this year it appears that she has peaked, and people are choosing to listen to other Christmas songs instead of Carey’s song, which is not having the same effect it did in years past.
The Walter Afanasieff-penned track, which was recorded in the Phil Spector manner, is not doing well commercially. And the figures support that. The song had previously hit No. 1 at this point in prior years, but now, according to Spotify and iTunes, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is hovering around No. 10 or below.
For instance, the Brenda Lee classic “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is at No. 3 on Spotify while the album “All I Want” is at No. 35 on the iTunes album list.

What will Mariah do without the success she had every year with her theme song?
Mariah has been attacked for her lack of movement at recent performances, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, so it’s possible that audiences are growing weary of the singer’s diva attitude and are beginning to ignore her.
However, before Christmas, the subject can still gain momentum in the ensuing weeks. However, the fact that it is no longer experiencing the same level of success as in the past suggests that the topic has most likely peaked. In the ensuing weeks, we shall observe.
