Igad, a regional African grouping, announced on Sunday that it would send three presidents to Sudan as soon as possible to reconcile the fighting rival military groups.
In a virtual meeting, the group agreed to send the presidents of Kenya, South Sudan, and Djibouti to Khartoum. It also demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities between Sudan’s warring parties.
However, with the international airport closed, it is unclear when any peace initiative will be launched.

Fighting between government forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued on Monday, despite international calls for warring parties to stop fighting.
Kenya’s President William Ruto has urged Igad leaders to take a firm stance in order to restore peace in Khartoum.
The United Nations World Food Programme has halted operations after three of its employees were killed and a UN plane was severely damaged.
The clashes have killed nearly 100 people.
