President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the Lagos red line train project on Thursday, February 29. The project’s first phase will run from Agbado in Ogun state to Oyingbo in the heart of Lagos. Once fully operational, the train is expected to run 37 trips daily and accommodate approximately 500,000 passengers. The commissioning of the red line marks a significant addition to Lagos State’s transportation infrastructure, complementing the existing Blue Line from Marina to Mile 2.
The first phase of the Red Line includes eight stations and aims to reduce travel time, alleviate stress-induced health issues, enhance economic productivity, ease traffic congestion, and improve commuter safety. The project also integrates with bus terminals at key locations for enhanced inter-modal connectivity. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emphasized that the rail project will transform public transportation in Nigeria.
