Son Heung-min underwent surgery for a major face injury, but Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is optimistic that the South Korean forward will be ready for the World Cup.
When he clashed with Chancel Mbemba during their 2-1 victory over Marseille last week, the Spurs star suffered a fracture around his left eye.
The South Korean team’s captain and talisman underwent surgery on Friday and is working to recover in time for the World Cup in Qatar, which gets underway on November 20.
Son missed Spurs’ 2-1 home loss to Liverpool on Sunday, and Conte told reporters that Son was “very, really sad” about the situation. “I gave him a message yesterday after the surgery,” Conte said.
However, I’m hoping for a speedy recovery so he can participate in the World Cup.
“I played, and I understand the value of competing in the World Cup.”
The Italian coach stated, “I am confident, sure that he can return shortly and play the World Cup for South Korea.
With 35 goals in 104 international games, Son, 30, is essential to South Korea’s prospects of progressing to the World Cup’s knockout rounds.
On November 24, South Korea plays Uruguay to open its campaign in Qatar. They also play Ghana and Portugal in Group H.
Son and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool split the Premier League’s Golden Boot award last year.
