The Kenya Railways Corporation has halted all commuter train operations in Nairobi ahead of the anti-government protests called by opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday.
Kenya Railways management attributed the decision to “unavoidable circumstances” in a statement issued on Sunday.
“We sincerely apologize to all of our valued customers for any inconvenience,” it said.
The train operator, on the other hand, stated that all commuter trains between the old railway station in the city center (Nairobi Central Station) and the Nairobi-Mombasa railway station (Nairobi Terminus) would run as planned.
Protests are being held in Nairobi and other parts of the country by the opposition coalition to demand electoral reforms and lower prices for basic commodities.
The police chief banned the protests on Sunday, but the opposition has insisted that they will take place in accordance with the law.
