Following Saturday’s opposition protests in Kinshasa, security forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo arrested approximately 20 people.
The Congolese National Police (PNC) said in its assessment of the demonstration that the 20 included individuals who allegedly vandalized the Kianza police station.
“Three police officers were arrested as a result of the brutality inflicted on demonstrators and a minor,” according to the Actualite CD website.
According to police, at least 27 law enforcement officers were injured, with three of them in critical condition.
According to Actualite CD, a journalist was also beaten up “by a gang of overexcited protesters.”
According to previous reports, the violence injured 23 police officers and 14 civilians.
Four opposition parties organized the demonstrations to protest the high cost of living, widespread insecurity in the country’s east, and a lack of transparency in the run-up to the December elections.
