Former Twitter employees based in Ghana are expressing frustration over the lack of communication from the company regarding negotiations and their severance packages after the significant layoffs in November last year.
Represented by Agency Seven Seven, these former staff members reveal that Twitter has been unresponsive to their lawyers since May, even though negotiations were close to conclusion. The social media giant’s legal team had been close to agreeing on paying three months’ salaries to the fired employees and repatriation funds for those hired from outside Ghana. However, Twitter has gone silent for weeks, leaving the situation unresolved.

Agency Seven Seven is now exploring other options to move forward with the matter. They are concerned that the absence of a settlement could set an unfavorable precedent for how foreign companies treat their employees in Ghana.
In November of last year, Twitter established its only Africa office in Ghana, which initially had about a dozen employees. Unfortunately, these employees were laid off as part of a broader staff reduction initiated by Elon Musk following his acquisition of the company.
