BTS Members RM and V Step Back Into the Spotlight After Military Service
Two members of the global K-pop sensation BTS, RM and V, have officially completed their mandatory military duties in South Korea—and they’re already eager to return to the stage.
The group has been on pause since 2022 as each of its seven members fulfills their service requirements. But this week marked a turning point, as RM and V were discharged and greeted by a sea of emotional fans waiting near their respective army bases.
RM, still in uniform, shared his excitement:
“What we want most right now is to perform again. We’re working hard on a new album and can’t wait to return to the stage.”
He also reflected on the challenges of military life, saying it gave him time to reconnect with family and old friends. V echoed similar sentiments, describing the experience as a much-needed reset.
“Now that I’ve had that time, I really want to run straight to ARMY,” he said, smiling as he held flowers and stood beside RM.
Fans were warned not to gather at the bases, but that didn’t stop many from showing up. Dozens waited outside to cheer for the stars, some even flying in from other countries.
“I’ve traveled to Korea many times, but this is the first time I’ll see V,” said Arlene Mendoza, a fan from the Philippines. “It’s overwhelming.”
RM and V later connected with fans through a live chat on Weverse, joined by fellow member Jin.
“We’ve got plans—just hang on a little longer,” RM said. “We’re back and ready to create something special.”
Friday also marks BTS’s debut anniversary celebration, known as FESTA, a fan-favorite event that brings together supporters from all over the world. With all members signed to new contracts with their agency HYBE and SUGA set to complete his service on June 21, excitement around a potential group reunion is building.
Despite recent challenges—including a corporate investigation—HYBE’s share value has climbed, reflecting renewed investor confidence ahead of BTS’s expected return.
Before enlisting, BTS was a major driver of South Korea’s economy, generating over $4 billion annually. With the possibility of a new album and tour on the horizon, fans and analysts alike are waiting to see just how powerful the group’s return will be.
Outside HYBE’s Seoul headquarters, banners from fans summed it up perfectly:
“Thank you for making even the waiting feel joyful.”
The building now carries one bold message: WE ARE BACK.
