On Thursday, at least two people were injured in an attack on the convoy of Segun Gbayi, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the House of Representatives, Lagos Mainland Constituency.
The attack was carried out by unidentified gunmen in the Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos State.
The gunmen also attacked the convoy’s security escorts, opening fire and vandalizing their vehicles.
Gbayi, on the other hand, narrowly escaped the attack unharmed.
Gbayi, in response, stated that the attack was carried out to prevent party members and supporters from exercising their right to vote in tomorrow’s election.
“This attack was carried out violently to discourage us from exercising our political franchise,” he claimed.
He advised voters and the general public to stay safe during this time and to report any threats to lives, vandalism, or violent attacks to security officers.
