Tyler, the Creator recently showed appreciation for Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, acknowledging the frontman’s talent for selecting samples. Despite their past conflicts dating back to 2013, the two artists had a touching moment on Sunday (July 2).
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the group’s debut album, “Behind the Front,” the Grammy winner credited the record for inspiring him to write his first rap verse at the tender age of seven.
Taking to Twitter, he expressed, “Even though will. i.am can be a bit of a character, it’s worth noting that 25 years ago, the Black Eyed Peas released ‘Behind The Front’ in 1998. It was one of the earliest hip-hop albums I owned. At the age of 7, I wrote my first rap using the second half of ‘Positivity’ (starts around the five-minute mark).”

Tyler, the Creator also expressed his admiration for the track “The Way U Make Me Feel,” which stood out to him from the album. Along with celebrating the overall body of work, he specifically praised the creative and straightforward music videos for “Joints & Jams” and “Love Won’t Wait.”
Interestingly, will.i.am’s influence on Tyler goes beyond his involvement with the Black Eyed Peas. Tyler revealed that will.i.am’s collaboration with Brazilian artist Sergio Mendes played a significant role in shaping his musical preferences.
“Behind the Front” introduced Tyler, known for his album “IGOR,” to the captivating sounds of bossa nova, thanks to will.i.am’s impeccable taste in samples. This experience eventually led will.i.am to collaborate with Mendes on the groundbreaking project called “Timeless” ten years later.
Tyler concluded his tribute by saying, “This album introduced me to bossa nova sounds because of will.i.am’s remarkable ear for samples, which eventually led him to work on that Sergio Mendes project almost a decade later. Thank you for influencing my musical taste and inspiring me to put words on paper.”
In response to Tyler’s heartfelt tribute, will.i.am quoted his post and expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thanks for the love… I’m incredibly proud of you… You’ve made an amazing contribution to the world of music and all things creative.”
